The RUNSQL command and its batch-only sister RUNSQLB allow you to marry CL (the universal i5/OS programming language) with SQL (the universal database language). If you ever have a need to run an SQL statement from the command line or simply INSERT or UPDATE a row in a physical file from CL, look no further – or if you've written a great SQL SELECT statement and would love to leverage it in your CL program, simply output the statement to an *OUTFILE and read the file using a RCVF CL command. With the advent of IBM’s DB2 Web Query, System i users are able to integrate Query/400 queries into a modern web interface. However, this means your queries are still tied to the Classic Query Engine (CQE). The CVTQRY utility allows you to convert your Query/400 queries to SQL en masse and signal user friendly warnings for Query/400 functions that don’t readily convert to SQL (i.e. unmatched records).
